Costs
Chris considers it essential to ensure a legal emergency is stabilised very early. For example if a friend or relative is arrested and marched off to the Police Station – those left behind are naturally concerned. Some common questions include:
- What is the procedure?
- Will the person be released, or have to stay in custody?
- How serious is the matter?
Chris invites you to telephone his clerk, Lynette MacDonald (without any fee being charged) to discuss the matter urgently. It will then become apparent as to what the matter involves and fees can be discussed in due course.
If you are of limited means, or the person you are helping is in custody, there may be eligibility for Legal Aid pursuant to the Legal Aid Commission Act 1979 (NSW). By applying for Legal Aid, you are asking that Legal Aid represent you or pay for the costs of a private lawyer. Legal Aid is not free, and you may not be able to retain the lawyer of your choice. You may wish to talk with Chris about this.
